A juice fast for my birthday

Yesterday, Lion woke me gently for the day, green juice in hand. He wanted to make sure my juice fast, my birthday gift to myself, was easy for me. He let me sleep in, oh precious jewel, taking over with Bear who does not sleep like a bear these days.  My Lion had set up the juicer on the counter, cleaned it all up, and made me my first body-cleansing juice, kale-apple-cucumber. What a sweet start to my birthday and my search for wellness.

As I got myself ready for work, I sipped my brekky and warmed up with a cup of hot water with fresh lemon. Mid-morning, I had my first taste of coconut water – yum! I didn’t realize it would be so rich and sweet.  I should be having this every morning as a source of electrolytes, and I’m so glad to discover I’m a fan.

Lunch was Carrot Cake, carrot-sweet potato-apple-cinnamon juice. I got to have some birthday cake after all!  This juice was a large serving, maybe 750 mL, and I drank it at my desk at work over an hour or so due to interruptions.  I don’t know if I should be trying to drink my juices all at once, or if slowly sipping will work just as well.  Something to work out as I go along.

I brought the rest of my green juice gift as a snack in the afternoon.  This was the first time I was prompted to drink from hunger.  And the juice filled me up just fine.

After work, it was time to go and buy more produce to get set up properly for this journey.  I had just stocked up on general fruit and veg on the weekend, but since I am going to follow the meal plans from “The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet” by Joe Cross, I decided I should make sure I followed the shopping list more closely.  That is one of the aspects of this Reboot that appeals the most to me.  No thinking, just doing.  Shop off the list, juice from the recipes and meal plans, and keep on keeping on.

Monkey and Bear were good company for me as I made my way back to work to pick up my Reboot book, which I had forgotten in my muddled rush to get home.  I lost track of time and left work late, in a rush because Lion needed me home so he could start work. I definitely feel that my mind is not clear so far, but I am also pretty sleep deprived from little Bear, so I am not sure if it’s all due to juice fasting.

In fact, I really think it’s more about lack of sleep because when I started off yesterday, I was following Day 16 instead of Day 6 (which is the first day of only juice in the plans, so is in fact my Day 1.  Confused yet?). Fortunately, all of the days follow the same schedule and pattern of eating (drinking), so no damage done.

With my book, and meal plans, in hand, I took the boys for a trip to the Root Cellar, my favourite local source of produce. It was so easy to shop with the list from Joe.  I knew to buy exactly 33 apples, 10 oranges, 9 cucumbers, etc.

Back at home, Red Bird was waiting to spend some time with me on my birthday.  She brought a basket filled with fruit and veg for juicing and a motivational book. We talked about life, juicing, family, and love, shared some tea and later a meal – pasta and salad for her, Lion and the boys, and Sporty Spice juice, beet-carrot-celery-orange-lemon, for me.  I made enough to share with everyone, which helped me feel like we were dining together.

Later, after Red Bird went home, Lion off to work, and Monkey and Bear off to sleep, I made myself another cup of tea and juiced myself a dessert – Pear Pie Delight, sweet potato-pear-apple-blueberry-cinnamon.  Yum!!

I made it through this first day somewhat muddled with fatigue and lack of preparation due to all the crazy business of everyday life, but flying high, feeling golden, and ready to keep going.
